Methods The pertinent literature of adjuvant treatment with disodium cantharidinate and vitamin B6 injection for patients with HCC were searched in Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Chinese Biomedicine Literature Database, VIP Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database (CNKI) and Wanfang Database. Meta analysis was carried out using Review Manager (version5.0) provided by Cochrane Collaboration. Results Four randomized controlled trials totaling 307 patients were included. Results showed that compared to control group, the adjuvant treatment with disodium cantharidinate and vitamin B6 injection significantly enhanced the shortterm effect [RR=1.40, 95%CI (1.04, 1.89), P=0.03] and improved the quality of life [RR=1.67, 95%CI (1.28, 2.17), P=0.000 1]. Moreover, the combination of disodium cantharidinate and vitamin B6 injection alleviated gastrointestinal reaction [RR=0.62, 95%CI (0.42, 0.93), P=0.02], bone marrow depression [RR=0.47, 95%CI (0.31, 0.71), P=0.000 3]and injury of liver function [RR=0.63, 95%CI (0.42, 0.93), P=0.02]. Conclusion Disodium cantharidinate and vitamin B6 injection can enhance the effectiveness, improve the quality of life and decrease the adverse effect rate in patients with intermediate or advanced HCC, and it is worth popularizing and applying.
