Advances on heme oxygenase-1 on angiogenesis of tumors

Abstract:Studies show that heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) can promote the tumor neovascularization via interacting with angiogenic factors, such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and stromal cell-derived factor-1. On the other hand, HO-1 may suppress angiogenesis in tumors via inhibiting the transcription of NF-κB. In a word, HO-1 may participate in the pathophysiological process of tumor angiogenesis, and may be a new target for cancer treatment.
