The School of Foreign Languages，Taishan Medical University，whose predecessor was the Foreign Languages teaching and research section, was established in the year 2001.

    The preparation for launching the undergraduate program of English language at Taishan Medical University began in the year 1999, which witnessed the approval and the establishment of The Six-year Clinical Medicine and English undergraduate program, with the enrollment started officially in 2000.

After the comprehensive preparation and examination, the School of Foreign Languages began to recruit three-year program college students of English language in 2001, undergraduates of English language in 2002, three-year program college students of tourism management in 2003, undergraduate students of Russian language in 2004, and undergraduates of tourism management in 2005. With full preparation and application, the year 2014 saw the birth of the Translation Department with the School of Foreign Languages and its enrollment of the college students. As of May 2014, the School of Foreign Languages has three teaching languages---English, Russian and Japanese，a total of 1300 registered students and six disciplines, including English majors of three-year and four-year program, Russian majors with four-year program, tourism management majors with three-year and four-year program as well as translation majors with four-year program.  

After 14 years of construction and development, the School of Foreign Languages now has 7 departments, including English Department, Russian Department, Translation Department, Tourism Management Department, College English Department, English for Science and Technology Department, and Foreign Language Audio-visual Training Center, and 3 laboratories for simultaneous interpretation training, tourism training and etc.

At present, there are 84 faculty members, including 10 administrators and 3 teaching assistants. Among the full-time teachers, there are 3 professors, 20 associate professors, and 56 lecturers, one staff member with post-doctoral training, 4 doctoral holders, 2 Ph.D. candidates and more than 60 master-degree holders. Moreover, about 4 to 6 foreign teachers are employed in each academic year. The teaching staff is growing steadily. In the long-term teaching practice, the School of Foreign Languages has developed a good atmosphere of unity, diligence, preciseness and innovation. In addition, the School with a strong academic atmosphere has formed a reasonably-structured team of vigorous teaching staff with “the senior guiding the junior”, which provides a firm guarantee for teaching and research. Since the start to recruit foreign experts in 1987, there have been 100 foreign experts teaching at the school. Great importance has been attached by the school authority to international exchanges and cooperation, which has been strengthened by frequent visits of many foreign teams.

Besides the teaching work for the majors at the school, the School of Foreign Languages is responsible for foreign language teaching at all levels with this university, covering postgraduates, undergraduates, three-year program college students, and adult learners.

The teaching conditions have been improved increasingly. There are 11 language labs and 1 simultaneous laboratory with a seating-capacity of 624. There are 3 on-campus broadcast stations for foreign language teaching with 3 channels, which cover both the main campus and Tianwaicun campus, fully meeting the basic needs for language listening and teaching. There are 2 sophisticated tape recorders and 2 Compact Disc-Recorders at the Foreign Language Audio-visual Training Center, which can meet the teachers and students’ needs for copying teaching tapes and CDs. The School of Foreign Languages also has many other advanced teaching aids, such as mobile multimedia, digital cameras, DVD, SONY recorders, and projectors, which can satisfy the routine needs for teaching and office work.

The university library boasts a storage of 100,000 books and 160 kinds of magazines in foreign languages relevant to various disciplines and specialties.
