Objective
To investigate the hospitalization costs of six common chronic diseases in the elderly, to explore the economic burden of chronic diseases in the elderly and to analyze the main factors affecting hospitalization costs, so as to provide the basis for rational formulating the cost control policies for chronic diseases in the elderly.
Methods
In tthis study the method of retrospective study and self-made questionnaire were used to collect the information on the front page of hospitalization medical records of the elderly aged over 60 years in a tertiary first-class hospital in Anhui Province from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020. The median (quartile) was used for descriptive statistical analysis, and the hospitalization expenses by single factor analysis were analyzed by non-parametric test. The sensitivity of each variable was obtained by neural network model, and the influence of each factor on hospitalization expenses was evaluated.
Results
The study showed that the average hospitalization cost of the elderly with chronic diseases was 10 705.8 yuan; the cost of drugs and examinations was the highest proportion of hospitalization expenses; age, urban and rural areas, medical insurance type, operation or not, hospitalization days and diseases were the influencing factors of hospitalization expenses; Among them, the most critical factors affected hospitalization expenses were hospitalization days, age and respiratory system disease.
Conclusion
The cost of hospitalization for chronic diseases of the elderly is high, among which drugs and examinations account for a high proportion, and the economic burden is heavy. The older the elderly are, the longer they stay in hospital, the higher the cost is. Respiratory diseases are the most expensive among common chronic diseases.
