    LIU Bo-Xin, GUO Chang-Qing
    2011, 38 (12): 885-887.
    Abstract( 881) PDF(1496KB) ( 1872) Save
MAL gene expresses in the mediate and late stage of T-lymphocytes. Many studies have shown that the expression of MAL gene has down regulation or loss in many kinds of tumors including esophageal carcinoma, gastric cancer, colon cancer, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, and so on. MAL gene is related with the process of generation and development of the tumors. The application of MAL gene for clinical diagnosis, prognostic and instructing therapy needs further studies.

B-cell translocation gene/transducer of erbB2 (BTG/TOB) protein family is a new antiproliferative protein family. Recent studies have found that BTG/TOB family is absent obviously in many tumor tissue specimens, such as lung cancer, breast cancer and thyroid cancer, and contributes to the genesis and progression of various malignancies.

Some hormones and glucocorticoid in chronic strss feedback are demonstrated to have significant effects on cancer progression. Recently, as a typical neuropeptide, gastrin releasing peptide (GRP) could mediate chronic stress to promote carcinogenesis through four conceivable mechanisms, such as regulating circadian rhythms, suppressing immunity system, acting as a mitogenic effect and mediating cancer-related psychiatric disorders, et al.

Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) is consisted of a large group of enzymes, which can hydrolyze Sn-2 ester bond of the phospholipids and have different structures and functions. According to the latest related researches, many subtypes of PLA2 express abnormally in a various of tumors and have a close relationship with cancer proliferation, apoptosis, invasion, metastasis and prognosis. Different subtypes have different effects on neoplasms. PLA2 can supply a new insight on cancer therapy.

Ubiquitin specific peptidases play important roles in controlling proteasome activity, organogenesis, tumorigenesis and transcriptional regulation. Ubiquitin specific peptidase 9X is able to remove ubiquitin from substrate proteins, so it may effectively regulate the proliferation, adhesion and signal transduction of tumor cells. It is a one of the most important factors in tumor progression.

Studies demonstrate that the serum levels of cytokeratin 19 fragment antigen 21-1 (CYFRA21-1) are high in various cancer types. As a novel epithelial cells derived tumor marker, detection of the serum level of CYFRA21-1 is of great clinical significance for screening and diagnosis, curative effect evaluation, recurrent monitoring and prognosis assessment for cancer patients.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been found to home to tissues/organs with inflammation, the sites of growing tumors, as well as to participate in the formation of the tumor micro-environment, suggesting that MSCs play important roles in tumor growth and metastasis. To study the roles and mechanisms of MSCs in tumor growth and metastasis will provide new insights into tumorigenesis and tumor target therapy.

Variants of gene loci on susceptibility genes are the major individual susceptibility factors of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in China. Some of the gene loci participate in the DNA damage and repair, and some are related with cancer suppressor genes, metabolism enzymes, trace elements and smoking. The single nucleotide polymorphisms of these susceptibility genes are closely correlated with the genesis of ESCC.

    2011, 38 (12): 920-922.
    Abstract( 734) PDF(1163KB) ( 1508) Save
Researches find that microRNAs(miRNAs) participate in cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. Dysregulation of miRNA exist in almost all kinds of tumors, including esophageal cancer. MiRNAs bind to mRNA of oncogene or tumor suppressor gene by perfectly or partly base-pair complementarity, and then, promote mRNA degradation or inhibit translation of target mRNA. Recently studies have comfirmed that miRNA function as a significant regulator in esophageal cancer and it is involved in tumorigenesis ,development and prognosis. MiR-21 binds to programmed cell death 4(PDCD4) mRNA and inhibits the translation of PDCD4, then promotes tumorigenesis of esophageal cancer. MiR-106-25 polycistron is activated by genomic amplification, and then suppresses the expressions of P21 and Bim, and subsequently promotes the occurrence and progress of esophageal cancer.

Medical therapy is the primary choice for patients with advanced biliary tract cancer. Gemcitabine has been proved to be one of the most effective drugs and a standard regimen has been made when combined with cisplatin. Studies of the second line therapy is few. Targeted therapy has a potential to create a new era in the future but needs to be validated in large clinical trials.

Objective To assess the effect of aspirin for the chemoprevention of colorectal adenomas by meta analysis of thepublished literature. Methods Cochrane strategy in combination with manual search was used to identify previously published randomized controlled trials by searching PubMed, EMBase, Cochrane Library, China Journal Full-text Database, Chinese Scientific Journal Full-text Database (CSJD) and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM). Results Six randomized controlled trials involving a total of 2 858 patients were studied. Of the six trials, two trials were performed in China. four trials were in the Europe and the United States. Some sufficient evidence were found to support that aspirin prevent of colorectal adenomas compared with [1]placebo group ( P=0.003, RR=O.66,95% CI:0.50-0.86); No edaquate evidence supported these conclusion: aspirin in the prevention of development of colorectal cancer ( P=0.29, RR=0.65,95% CI:0.30-1.44); high-dose aspirin compared ( P=0.10, RR=0.85, 95% CI:0.71-1.30) and low–dose aspirin could prevent colorectal adenomas compared with placebo group( P=0.02, RR=0.57, 95% CI:0.36-0.90), and a dose-dependent associtation was found. The risk of stroke was higher in any dose of aspirin compared with placebo group( P=0.04), and the risks of adverse events had no significant differences in all groups. ConclusionAspirin might prevent the development of colorectal adenomas in individuals, but could not prevent the colorectal cancer. 通讯作者: 关泉林, E-mail:guanquanlin@163.com

    2011, 38 (12): 948-951.
    Abstract( 731) PDF(1553KB) ( 1872) Save
Objective To study the relationship between serum trace elements and renal cell carcinoma. Methods The serum concentrations of multi-elements in 30 patients with renal cell carcinoma and 26 healthy volunteers were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS). The results were analyzed by partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) and Fisher discriminant. Results Compared with healthy volunteers, the levels of vanadium(5 034.56 ng/L : 4 401.23 ng/L), cobalt(211.34 ng/L:158.67 ng/L), nickel(1 850.55 ng/L:1 587.12 ng/L), manganese(1 873.35 ng/L:932.68 ng/L) and cadmium(95.63 ng/L:36.43 ng/L) were significant higher in patients with renal cell carcinoma ( P<0.05). While, the concentrations of calcium(10.83 mg/L :11.78 mg/L) and zinc(67.11 μg/L: 70.92 μg/L) were significant lower ( P<0.05). The scores plot showed distinct clustering between patients and controls. The classification accuracy of Fisher discriminant function was 97.8%.Conclusion Trace elements in serum are significantly different in patients with renal cell carcinoma and healthy volunteers. Discriminant analysis of serum samples based on trace element levels is possible. Thus, it is feasible for early diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma by determination of trace elements and discriminant analysis.
